This is a project I have dreamed of doing for over 15 years.
From the moment I first encountered this book, I knew it needed to be brought into the English-speaking world. Professor Liú’s clarity, clinical precision, and profound respect for the Shānghán Lùn have stayed with me ever since. His writing is both rigorous and poetic — a rare blend — and it has long been my wish to share his voice with others walking this path.
It has truly been a labour of love, and it could not have been done — nor look as beautiful as it does — without the extraordinary talent and heart of Kylie Rodger. Kylie not only guided the editing process with care and precision, but also designed the entire book from start to finish. Her eye, dedication, and creative spirit gave this work a physical form that matches the depth of the text. I am endlessly grateful.
